Speakers to Explain Different Types of County Government

Are you confused about the difference between a General Law county and a Home Rule county?

On Tuesday, October 17, from 7:00-8:30 p.m. at the Umpqua Valley Arts Center, 1624 W. Harvard Ave. in Roseburg, the League of Women Voters of Umpqua Valley will feature Joe Leahy and Bill Van Vactor speaking about different forms of county governance.

Mr. Leahy teaches Local Government Law at U of O Law School. He was City Attorney for the City of Springfield and is Legal Counsel for the Springfield Utility Board.

Bill Van Vactor was Lane County Legal Counsel for 15 years and then Lane County Administrator for 15 years. Lane County operates under a Home Rule Charter.

The League is nonpartisan, and encourages informed voting.

Join us for the Money in Politics Study Consensus Meeting on Jan. 19. The Annual Program Planning meeting will be on Jan. 28 when soup will be served.

The Money in Politics Study Consensus Meeting on Jan. 19 will be at the Mercy Education Center at 2475 Stewart Parkway, Roseburg (next to Office Max) at 7PM to 8:30PM.

Please attend the Health Care Forum sponsored by the League of Women Voters of Umpqua Valley free to the public on Monday, December 8th from 5:30 p.m.to 7:30 p.m. at the Douglas County Public Library, 1409 NE Diamond Lake Blvd in Roseburg, Oregon.

The forum will feature four local health care leaders:

  • Dr. Bob Dannenhoffer of the Umpqua Health Alliance and Architrave,
  • Linda Mullins of the Umpqua Community Health Center,
  • Dawnelle Marshall of Douglas County Public Health, and
  • Janet Holland of the Community Health Alliance.

The public will have an opportunity to ask the panel questions.

Light refreshments will be provided.
