Time’s up for mailing in your ballot. Either use a drop box or walk it in to the Douglas County Clerk’s office and drop it off there no later than 8PM on Tuesday, May 19. It’s a wonderful thing when a community comes together in the face of adversity. And that is happening now in Douglas County, Oregon, in the midst of calamity and invisible disease all around.
Thank you to Oregon Serigraphics owner Stephanie LaFleur, and League of Women Voters member, who is providing a link between the community and the medical community. She has arranged to provide mask materials to sewists — like the Umpqua Sewing Warriors — to produce much needed medical masks for our warriors on the frontlines — doctors, nurses and everyone else working in healthcare to help those in need. We thank all those who are tackling the coronavirus outbreak daily to help our county, state and nation to get through this. As for the rest of us — STAY HOME — if at all possible! And Sew!

Hundreds of Climate Strike events are being planned across the country. People of all ages will come together in the streets all over the world on September 20th as part of a Global Climate Strike. And Roseburg citizens will be among them.
Join us on Friday, Sep. 20 at Noon to 1PM in front of Fred Meyer on Garden Valley Blvd. Bring your signs! Take photos! Be a participant. Be able to tell your children that you did something about this planetary emergency.
There’s no denying the climate crisis is already here. Over the years, we’ve watched storms, floods, fires and heat waves devastate communities from Puerto Rico to Portland. In the meantime, our elected officials have
continued to protect the oil, coal, and gas billionaires responsible for this crisis.
It doesn’t have to be this way. We know what the solutions are, and we have the means to implement them.
Together, we have the power to take our destiny out of the hands of fossil fuel billionaires and their corrupt enablers. Join us on Garden Valley Blvd. on September 20th for the Global Climate Strike.

The Spring Garden Tour 2019 held on Sat., June 15th and sponsored by the League of Women Voters of Umpqua Valley was a great success thanks to all the people who come year after year.

Please join the League of Women Voters as we tackle a big issue: gerrymandering. With the 2020 U.S census coming so is the 2021 redistricting process. Come learn about our current redistricting process, how it impacts elections here in Oregon, and what reform could look like. There will be a time for Q & A as well. This is a space to talk about how we can move forward in advocating for fair representation, competitive districts, and a system that prevents abuse. Because we believe that voters should choose their representatives, not representatives choose their voters.
