All of the candidates listed on your ballot are trustworthy and competent supporters. However, with the five positions and six candidates it is possible that write-in candidates who oppose the measure may be elected to the board. Two such write-in candidates are currently hoping to get on the new library system’s board of directors and both are staunch anti-tax adherents who oppose our measure. We urge you to choose any of the five people whose names are on the ballot, but please be sure to fill in those little ovals.

@ The Douglas County Library
In the upcoming election, Douglas County voters will be making decisions about important issues in our county. How will our library system survive in the future? Will marijuana businesses be allowed in the unincorporated parts of Douglas County? Both of these issues will have financial consequences for our county.
The League of Women Voters of Umpqua Valley invites the public to an opportunity to learn more. At this forum you will have a chance to ask your questions.

The Local Ballot Measure Forum will feature a panel of speakers to provide information about local ballot measures pertaining to a library taxing district and the location of marijuana businesses in Douglas County.
Bring your questions with you!
Download a Ballot Measure Forum Flyer to post around town! Thank you!

It’s really a no-brainer, but so many people don’t know about it.
Kathy Shayler volunteered to be volunteer coordinator and we really need folks to knock on doors or sit a couple of hours at a library or post office or do phone work or computer work. There’s a lot to be done and not much time.
On the other hand, the job will be over before you know it!
Love to see you there!
Kathy
At the September 27 membership meeting the we will discuss the library measure.
Here are a few links:
We believe a library system should exist for all. It represents access to education and should be open to all residents throughout our county. It is part of an attractive and livable community and encourages a better educated citizenry.
Special Taxing Districts and Urban Renewal Districts
The League believes the formation of Special Taxing Districts and Urban Renewal Districts may be desirable in certain situations. The formation of any such district must be considered only after an informed, transparent planning process and thorough analysis of the implications to all government provided services.
League shall consider the following criteria to determine whether or not to support a proposal to form a Special Taxing District or an Urban Renewal District.
For Urban Renewal Districts an additional criterion will be considered:
There is no intent that a taxing or urban renewal district must meet every criterion in order to gain League support. Instead, the idea is that, for any new district, each criterion will be evaluated and the League position will be arrived at by balancing the pros and cons illuminated by the criteria.
