The Public is Invited To Attend The League of Women Voters of Oregon’s Council 2014
At the Holiday Inn Express in Roseburg, OR. 375 West Harvard Avenue, Roseburg, Oregon.
On Friday, May 16 at 3:45 PM to 4:45 PM, Dr. Patty M. Scott, Ed.D., President, Southwestern Oregon Community College will speak on “WHEN GENERATIONS COLLIDE”.
Every generation is different, but why does it seem hard to connect with young people of high school and college age? Dr. Scott will relate how Southwestern Oregon Community College makes education relevant to the students and explores ways that generations can learn to appreciate and benefit from the other’s view of the world.
Also on Friday, May 16, that evening at 7:30 PM, the Banquet Speaker will be Tom Bowerman, Project Director, of PolicyInteractive Climate & Public Policy Research Project.
“WE’RE CLOSER THAN WE THINK”
Conventional wisdom portrays citizens as deeply divided over major policy issues. This view is reinforced by media stories and political rhetoric. The third Oregon Values and Beliefs Survey results call into question that the culture is so deeply polarized, based on results from 198 questions asked of thousands of randomly selected citizens. Results show a majority of the population share a common vision of engagement on major issues. The study methodology and findings will be presented by Tom Bowerman, along with a brief examination of the role of the individual in influencing social change. This talk will cover some highlights from the range of topics but will give more focus to environmental topics, PolicyInteractive’s primary focus.
